The Description of PdaNet+
Site Editorial Commentary:Share smart phone Internet with computers or tablets, no rooting needed.
Version 5.10 introduces significant updates; please read the following carefully before updating.1. The Windows client also requires updating from http://pdanet.co/install.
2. The original WiFi Hotspot feature is now located in the separate FoxFi app. Install it from the Play Store if you still require this functionality. You can find the previous version (4.19) of PdaNet+ at http://pdanet.co/install/old.
3. Android now requires new location permissions due to WiFi scan API calls.
Please be aware that without root access, the capabilities of any app are technically limited. We strive to provide the "most convenient solution possible" for sharing your phone's internet connection, but it may not be an "ideal" or "universal" solution, such as a standard WiFi Hotspot. Compatibility may vary across different devices.
=====WiFi Direct mode (New!)=====
PdaNet+ now features a completely new "WiFi Direct Hotspot" mode that is compatible with all Android phones running version 4.1 or later. This mode allows you to connect computers and tablets to your phone via WiFi. However, it requires you to install our client app or configure a proxy, depending on the device you are connecting. To activate "WiFi Direct Hotspot" in PdaNet+, tap the "Help!" button for detailed instructions.
*If your Windows computer does not detect the hotspot during pairing, try the following:
1. Restart the Hotspot on your phone.
2. Click on "Show All WiFi Direct Hotspot" to verify if your adapter supports 5GHz.
====FoxFi/WiFi Hotspot Mode (Legacy)====
The original WiFi Hotspot feature is still available in the separate FoxFi app. However, it has become non-functional on many newer phone models due to carrier updates. Even when functional, your hotspot usage may still be subject to metering. WiFi Direct Hotspot can resolve both of these issues, but it is not designed to support gaming consoles, TVs, or TV streaming devices.
=====USB Mode=====
USB mode is compatible with all Android phones (except for some ZTE/Alcatel models). It enables connections from Windows or Mac computers. Additionally, a "WiFi Share" feature allows you to transform your Windows computer into a WiFi Hotspot, enabling you to share your PdaNet internet connection with other devices.
*If your computer does not recognize your phone after connecting via USB, please visit http://pdanet.co/driver for assistance.
=====Bluetooth Mode=====
Bluetooth mode is available for connecting to Windows computers, although WiFi Direct mode is the preferred option.
=====Do I need this software?=====
PdaNet has been available since the first Treo smartphone in 2003. With over 30 million downloads, it addresses a common need. Whether you need it depends on your phone's data plan. Most carriers offer four types of data plans:
1. Your data plan (limited or unlimited) does not allow you to enable the mobile hotspot feature on your phone (prompting you to contact your carrier).
2. Your data plan is unlimited, and you can enable the mobile hotspot from your phone. However, hotspot usage is "metered" against a cap (e.g., 5GB/month). After exceeding this cap, your speed will be throttled. (FoxFi cannot bypass this limitation!)
3. Your data plan is unlimited, and you can enable the mobile hotspot from your phone with unlimited LTE usage and no throttling cap. This plan is rare or unintended, but some phone models may have loopholes that allow it.
4. Your data plan is limited and allows you to enable the mobile hotspot from your phone. Mobile hotspot usage is deducted from the same data plan limit.
If your plan falls under categories 1 or 2, you should use PdaNet+. If your plan belongs to category 3 or 4, PdaNet+ will not offer any additional benefit. If you are unsure about your plan, using PdaNet+ will not cause any harm.
=======================
The free edition of PdaNet+ has a timed usage limit; otherwise, it is identical to the full version.
Sprint and AT&T may restrict the installation of our app from the Play Store. If this occurs, please install the APK file directly from http://pdanet.co/install or install it from your computer.
