Hoot provides multiple search options, allowing you to enter various parameters, including letter count, beginnings, and endings. The results are presented in a clear format, displaying hooks, inner hooks, and scores. You can also view probability and playability rankings, along with the number of anagrams. Word definitions are readily accessible with a click, and both words and definitions are stored locally, eliminating the need for an internet connection.

Utilize wildcards (?, *) and pattern searching with a modified regular expression engine. Expand your search with the context menu, allowing you to search based on a word in the results with different options. You can also save words to a card box. Results can also be used to show Slides, begin quick quizzes, or review for anagrams, hook words, or blank anagrams. You can also add results to Leitner style card boxes. Card box quizzes can be filtered and optionally taken in flashcard mode.

In addition to its search capabilities, Hoot serves as an adjudication tool, assisting with word challenges in club play and tournaments, adhering to nasPA rules. Enter multiple words, and the app will determine if a play is acceptable, without identifying the valid words.

**Lexicons:**
The current version of Hoot includes the NWL18, NWL2O, NWL23, CSW19, CSW22, and WOW24 lexicons. NWL lexicons are published by NASPA and used primarily in the United States. WOW is published by WGPO. CSW/Collins lexicons are used in most other English-speaking countries.

**Hoot Desktop Companion:**

This app complements the desktop program Hoot Lite. Hoot Lite can modify databases for use in the Android version. Importable lexicons and databases are available for download from www.tylerhosting.com/hoot/downloads.html. The desktop version also lets you create your own lexicon from a plain text word list, add definitions, and create subject lists.
