gps Waypoints is a versatile mapping and surveying tool designed for both professional and personal use. This application is valuable for a wide range of land-based surveying activities, including agriculture, forest management, infrastructure maintenance (roads, electrical networks), urban planning, real estate, and emergency mapping. It's also perfect for personal outdoor activities like hiking, running, walking, traveling, and geocaching.

The application collects Points (points of interest) and Paths (sequences of points) to facilitate mapping and surveying tasks. Points, acquired with accuracy information, can be classified using specific tags or enhanced with photos. Paths are created as temporal sequences of newly acquired Points (for recording tracks) or by using existing Points (to create routes). Paths enable distance measurement, and closed paths form Polygons, allowing for area and perimeter determination. Both Points and Paths can be exported to KML, GPX, and CSV files for external processing with geospatial tools.

The application utilizes the mobile device's internal GPS receiver (typically with accuracies >3m) or allows professional users to achieve better accuracy using a Bluetooth external GNSS receiver compatible with NMEA stream format (e.g., RTK receivers with centimeter-level precision). Below are some examples of supported external receivers.

Key features include:
- Acquiring current position with accuracy and navigation information.
- Providing details of active and visible satellites (GPS, GLOnasS, GALILEO, BEIDOU, and others).
- Creating Points with accuracy information, classifying them with Tags, attaching photos, and converting coordinates into human-readable addresses (reverse geocoding).
- Importing Points from geographic coordinates (lat, long) or by searching for street addresses/points of interest (geocoding).
- Creating Paths by acquiring sequences of points manually or automatically.
- Importing Paths from existing Points.
- Creating survey themes with custom Tags for classifying Points and Paths.
- Getting directions and distances from the current position to Points and Paths using a magnetic or GPS compass.
- Exporting Points and Paths to KML and GPX file formats.
- Sharing data with other applications (e.g., Dropbox/Google Drive).
- Configuring the positioning source for the internal receiver or using an external receiver.

The Premium subscription unlocks professional features:
- Backup and restore user data (also enables data transfer between devices).
- Export Waypoints and Paths to CSV file format.
- Export Waypoints with photos to KMZ file
- Import multiple Points and Paths from CSV and GPX files.
- Sort and filter Points and Paths by creation time, name, and proximity.
- Satellite signal analysis and interference detection.

The Maps feature is an extra paid functionality that allows selecting and visualizing your Points, Paths and Polygons on Open Street Maps.

In addition to the internal mobile receiver, the current version is known to work with external receivers such as Bad Elf GNSS Surveyor, Garmin Glo, Navilock BT-821G, Qstarz BT-Q818XT, Trimble R1, and u-blox F9P.
