Your goal is to be the first to reach 12 points. Each player receives 3 cards, and the player who throws the highest card wins the trick. The best of three tricks determines the round winner. The points awarded per round depend on the 'gritos' (calls) made during the game, including 'Truco,' 'Vale 6,' 'Vale 9,' and 'Partido.'

In Truco Paulista, the trump cards ('manilhas') are dynamic. They are the four cards immediately above the flipped card ('vira') in the cyclic order: 4-3-2-A-K-J-Q-7-6-5-4-3. The four 'manilhas' are ranked by suit, in descending order: Clubs > Hearts > Spades > Diamonds. Other cards follow the standard Truco ranking: 3-2-A-K-J-Q-7-6-5-4, losing the 'manilha' rank. For example, if the turn card is a Jack, the cards are ranked from highest to lowest as: K of Clubs - K of Hearts - K of Spades - K of Diamonds - 3 - 2 - A - J - Q - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4.
