**Prerequisites:**

1. This app functions as both a standalone application and a Torque plugin. To utilize it as a plugin, Torque Pro must be installed on your device. **Important:** Launch Torque Pro from this ProtonOBD app to ensure the plugin service starts correctly.
2. An ELM327-compliant adapter is required. **Avoid using ELM327 version 2.1**, as it does not support K-line communications. Recommended adapters can be found at http://bit.ly/obd2malaysia (confirmed to work by ahmad hamidon).
3. Carefully follow the instructions below. Ensure a stable connection to the ECU *before* attempting to scan or erase error codes, or check the status, to prevent app crashes.

**Important notes:**

Later versions of Android may have battery-saving settings that prevent apps from starting automatically. Please ensure that this plugin is configured to autostart. This may also be necessary if you are using an autostart manager app.

These settings are typically located within your device's battery settings.

**Installation Procedures:**

This app is primarily intended for Proton cars. Newer Vehicles with CFE engines may not require this plugin for basic functionality; however, you can still use it to access Proton-specific PIDs.

To use this app as a plugin with Torque Pro, follow these instructions:

Vehicles equipped with older CAMPRO and CPS engines are supported but require the following special setup:

1. First, launch Torque Pro from within this ProtonOBD app. This ensures that the plugin service starts correctly. Starting Torque Pro directly may or may not work.
2. This plugin requires full access to the OBD device. In Torque Pro, enable 'Allow plugin full access' under Settings -> Plugins.
3. Create a new vehicle profile in Torque. Go to Menu, select 'Vehicle Profile', and then click 'Create new profile...'.
4. Name the profile 'PROTON'. For Proton CFE engines, name the profile 'Proton CFE'. Scroll to the bottom and click 'Show advanced settings'.
5. Scroll to the bottom. In 'Preferred OBD Protocol', select 'ISO 14230 (fast init, 10.4 baud)'. For Proton CFE, select either 'Automatic protocol scan' or 'ISO15765-4 CAN (11bit 500k baud)'.
6. Click 'Save'.
7. Create another vehicle profile and name it 'Blank'. Scroll to the bottom and click 'Save'. Do not configure any advanced settings for this profile.
8. Use the 'PROTON' vehicle profile you created whenever you want to scan Proton engines by navigating to Menu -> 'Vehicle Profile' -> and selecting the appropriate profile. For other vehicles, use the 'Blank' profile.
9. Create custom PIDs by going to Settings -> Manage extra PID/Sensors -> tap settings and select 'Add predefined set'. Select 'Proton PIDs'.
10. Create displays in 'Realtime Information' by going to Realtime Information -> navigate to an empty page -> tap menu -> Add display -> choose your meter type -> Select PIDs that start with {PROTON}.
11. Ensure you navigate to this 'Realtime Information' page each time you want to use the plugin with PROTON cars. Otherwise, Torque may not connect to your ECU. You may need to wait a moment for Torque to establish a connection.
12. You are now ready to use Torque to scan your car.
13. To scan error codes (or access other features in the paid version), tap on this plugin's logo (PROTON OBD). Please ensure a stable connection to the ECU *before* scanning to avoid app crashes.
