DSC Auto Rename is a utility designed to automatically rename image and video files taken by your device's camera. It renames files based on their date and time, helping you organize your media library effortlessly.

**Important notes:**
* This application **DOES NOT work on Android 11.**
* Renamed and moved files cannot be reverted. Use with caution!
* The application does not store original filenames to avoid conflicts with the camera's default naming counter. As a workaround, you can use the "Append original name" option.
* If you encounter issues, try reinstalling the application.

This application was initially developed for older phones (KitKat and Lollipop) using an Android Emulator due to cost constraints for testing on real devices.

**KitKat Advice:**
The application can only rename files stored on internal memory due to SD card access restrictions. Refer to "What changed after KitKat?" at http://goo.gl/0xr7qI for more information.

**Lollipop Advice:**
It's recommended to uninstall and reinstall the application. Similar to KitKat, renaming files on external memory requires enabling "Rename within a folder" and specifying the camera app's folder. For consistency, select both internal and external memory folders. If issues arise, select only the DCIM folder and avoid subfolders like 100ANDRO (e.g., SD Card/DCIM).

**Android 7 (Nougat) Advice:**
For automatic renaming, set the rename service trigger to "Media content observer" if the service isn't triggered by camera events.

**Description:**
DSC Auto Rename renames pictures and videos from formats like DSC_0001.JPG or MOV_0001.mp4 to date-time-based names like 20150414_213616.JPG or 20150414_090523.mp4.

**Key Features:**
* Rename files based on:
* Date and time the file was added to the media provider.
* Date and time the file was last modified.
* EXIF data (pictures only; clips do not support EXIF).
* Limit renaming to specific folders and subfolders using the "Rename within a folder" option.

**File Name Formatting:**
The application uses Java date and time formats:
* yyyy: Year
* MM: Month
* dd: Day
* HH: Hour
* mm: Minutes
* ss: Seconds
* SSS: Milliseconds

Note: Milliseconds are not used internally due to EXIF specifications and Android file name date/time limitations.

**Customization:**
* Define individual file name patterns for pictures and videos.
* Use wildcards (* or ?) in patterns (case-insensitive).
* Avoid overly generic patterns like *.JPG to prevent infinite renaming loops.

**Rename Service:**
The rename service automatically triggers when image or video files are saved using:
1. Events sent by the camera (camera app must send com.android.camera.NEW_PICTURE or android.hardware.action.NEW_PICTURE).
2. Media content changes (service monitors all media content changes).
