The gameplay begins with a player leading with a single card of any suit (club, diamond, heart, or spade). Subsequent players must follow suit if possible; otherwise, they can play a card of a different suit. The round is won by the player with the highest card of the led suit. Spades hold a unique power: they can be used to trump other suits when a player has no cards of the led suit remaining. For example, the 2 of spades can conquer any higher cards of other suits. If all players are out of both the led suit and spades, the initial led card wins, regardless of its suit.
