Site Editorial Commentary：A mountain climbing map app that lets you find your current location even when you're out of range

Yamarecomap is a map application that can be used as a gps for mountain climbing and outdoor activities.
It is the only app that can support the activities necessary for mountain climbing, from creating a climbing plan to submitting a mountain climbing notification, checking maps during climbing, and creating records after climbing.
It also supports Wear OS smartwatches!

[Before Climbing]
You can easily create a climbing plan for your planned climb in advance and submit a climbing notification to each prefecture via the Japan Mountain Guides Association's "Compass" system.
You can download the map and route information of the submitted climbing notification before climbing.

[During Climbing]
Since you have downloaded the map in advance, you can check your current location with GPS even in the mountains where mobile phone signals do not reach.
In addition, if you enter the planned route, you can display the estimated arrival time at the summit and trailhead based on your current walking pace. You can also easily save photos and videos during climbing.

Also, by linking with the "Ima Koko" app and website, you can safely and in real time tell your family and friends your current location only while you are climbing using the "Yamareco" app, so you can rest assured!

[After Climbing]
After finishing climbing, you can contact the "Compass" system from the app to report that you have descended the mountain and tell your family that you have finished climbing safely.
If you save the photos and GPS logs you have taken as "mountain trip records" on the Yamareco website, you can easily publish the information on the internet.
Also, since the information remains on the server, it can also be used as a backup in case your smartphone breaks down.

[Features]
1) Offline maps available

You can download and use the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan's maps as "cache" for domestic use.

In addition, Yamareco's "Everyone's Footprints" are also displayed on top of the map, so you can see at a glance where everyone is actually walking (where the mountain trails are).

Of course, the place name data registered with Yamareco is also included, so you can check minor mountains and passes that are not on the map.

2) Mountain climbing notification can also be submitted online

It is linked with the "Compass" system operated by the Japan Mountain Guides Association, so you can create a climbing plan with the app and submit it to Compass as it is as a climbing notification.

In each prefecture that the Japan Mountain Guides Association has partnered with, submitting a plan to Compass is treated the same as submitting a climbing notification.

Since the online submitted climbing notification is used in the event of a mountain rescue, it is more secure than submitting it on paper to an unmanned mountain climbing post, and a quick response is possible in the event of an emergency.

3) Route and map can be downloaded as a set

You can download not only the prepared area map, but also the route and map created in the climbing plan together.

You can also download routes and maps together from other people's mountain trip records, GPX files, etc.

4) You can see the estimated time of arrival!

The downloaded map shows the standard course time, so you can easily imagine what time you will arrive at each point even during climbing.
Also, if you enter the route you plan to walk, it will display the estimated time of arrival at each point (summit, junction, trailhead, etc.) based on the pace you are currently walking.

I think you can also use it as a criterion for judging when to turn back in the mountains so that you can descend the mountain by sunset.

5) You can save GPS logs and memos while climbing!

When you start climbing, you can save memos in text in addition to GPS logs and photos.
You can save the excitement of standing on the summit on the spot!

6) You can share your current location with your family!

If you take a GPS log, your current location will be periodically saved on Yamareco, and you can check your current location with Yamareco's "Ima Koko" function.

By accessing "Ima Koko" on your family's computer or smartphone, your family can check your current location at any time.

7) You can easily save your mountain trip record!

You can easily create a mountain trip record using the photos and GPS logs you created while climbing!
Since a draft is automatically created when you finish climbing, you can immediately create a record during your free time on the train on the way home.

8) Can also be used with smartwatches!

If you use a smartwatch with Wear OS by Google, you can easily check the map on your wrist. In addition, you can be alerted on your wrist when you deviate from the planned route, allowing you to enjoy mountain climbing more safely!

*Smartwatches with Wear OS 2.0 or later are supported.
Operation has been confirmed with Google Pixel Watch, TicWatch Pro 5, Galaxy Watch4, and Suunto 7, but it can also be used with other smartwatches that support Wear OS 2 or later.

9) You can check Yamaten's mountain weather forecast!

You can check the weather forecast for mountains only, "Yamaten", in the app.
Once displayed, you can check the weather forecast as many times as you like even offline.
*Login as a Yamaten member or purchase a weather forecast plan is required.

[Measures when GPS logs are interrupted]
- Open the settings app and check that the location information mode of your current location information is set to "High accuracy".
- If you are using a power saving app, try excluding the Yamareco app from power saving.
- Try setting "Battery optimization" to not optimize the battery in the Android settings app "Battery" -> "Battery optimization".

[Measures when the current location cannot be acquired / GPS logs cannot be taken from the beginning]
- Check that the sky is wide open so that you can receive signals from GPS satellites.
- Check that you can get your current location with an app that can get the status of GPS satellites.
- If you are using an MVNO carrier such as a cheap SIM that cannot use A-GPS, it may take about 10 minutes to acquire the initial location information.
- Open the settings app and check that the location information mode of your current location information is set to "High accuracy".
- Try turning off the location information service once and then turning it on again.
- Try restarting your smartphone.

[About the upper limit of the number of map downloads]
The upper limit of the number of map downloads is 1 for guests and 2 when logged in (free). There is no upper limit to the number of downloads per month.
If you delete the unnecessary cache each time you finish climbing, you can download the map again for free.
If you are a Yamareco premium plan (paid) member, you can download as much as you like as long as your smartphone's capaCity allows.

*The "Everyone's Footprints" function displays the actual walking tracks, but there is a possibility that it includes variation routes, roads that cannot be passed depending on the season, abandoned roads, etc., and we do not guarantee that the information is always accurate.
When making climbing plans, be sure to collect the latest information from the Yamareco website and local related organizations before climbing.
