A good starting point is often the islands with the highest numbers. Placing bridges strategically can eliminate potential pathways for other bridges, forcing you to make calculated decisions. For example, an island with '3' in a corner, '5' along an edge, or '7' in the center will require at least one bridge in every available direction.

Similarly, a corner island with '4', an edge island with '6', or a central island with '8' will need two bridges in each direction.

Consider islands with limited options. If an island displays '1' and only has one direction available due to blocked bridges, connect it immediately.

Remember that all islands must be part of a single, unified network. Therefore, connecting two '1' islands directly may not always be possible.

The original Hashi, fully named Hashiwokakero, debuted in September 1990 in Puzzle Communication Nikoli magazine, with an earlier version appearing in December 1989.
