The Description of Chess
Site Editorial Commentary:Chess application (with UCI and XBoard engines support).
chess for Android is a comprehensive chess application featuring both a robust chess engine and a user-friendly graphical interface (GUI). Interact with the game using the touch screen, trackball, or keyboard input (e.g., 'e2e4' to advance the king's pawn, 'e1g1' to castle kingside). The optional 'move coach' intelligently highlights valid moves for the user during input, and also displays the engine's last move, aiding in learning and strategy.Full game navigation is provided, allowing users to easily correct mistakes or deeply analyze previous games. Import and export games using FEN/PGN formats to and from the clipboard or via sharing options. Load and save games as files, or use the position editor to set up custom scenarios. The application accurately recognizes Draws by stalemate, insufficient material, the fifty-move rule, and threefold repetition.
The chess engine offers various playing levels, including random moves, self-play in auto-play mode, and free-play, transforming your device into a 'magnetic chessboard' for experimentation and learning. You can play as either white or black and independently view the board from either perspective.
The application boasts support for the Universal Chess Interface (UCI) and Chess Engine Communication Protocols (WinBoard and XBoard), enabling you to compete against more powerful third-party engines or even organize engine tournaments. Engines can be imported in Android Open Exchange format (OEX), in Android Chessbase compatible format, or directly from your SD card. Engine setup includes features like time control, pondering, infinite analysis, hash tables, multiple threads, endgame tablebases, and opening test suites.
Connect the application to external electronic chessboards from Certabo, Chessnut, ChessUp, DGT, House of Staunton, or Millennium for a tactile playing experience. Enjoy online play on FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) or ICC (Internet Chess Club) to challenge opponents worldwide.

PERMISSION noteS:
You can freely disable permissions you don't want to grant; the rest of the application will continue to function normally:

+ Location: Required only if you intend to connect to DGT Pegasus/Chessnut Air, as this requires a Bluetooth LE scan.
What's New
Fixed file visibility under API 29
**** SAD NOTE on ANROID 10 ****
New security restrictions of API 29 (mandatory for updates) no longer allow running arbitrary binaries, only pre-packaged binaries (see my thread at http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=75987). Thanks for your kind understanding, this is out of my control!
